Since I highly doubt the game will be anything but a blow out, let's hope the commercials are worth the time. (My favorite is the last one.)
Okay, so last night's women's study was a fabulous mode of relaxation, entertainment and time with the Lord and sisters in Christ. In the midst of it all we managed to scare the heck out of one of the ladies young daughters. Unlike my SIL who is stuck with the constant ongoing study of Ephesians (has it happened in Austin yet?), I - on the other hand - frequently am stuck in the desert with Moses.
Anyways, in Exodus 3 or 4, Moses broke the covenant and managed to not circumcise one of his boys. So his wife gets ticked off and does the duty for him. Ouch, poor kid. I wonder what he thought when his mom picked up the stone and came at him....was he as gracious as Isaac when Abraham was going to sacrifice him. So we ensued into a lovely discussion about the event....not paying attention to younger ears.
As the discussion calmed came the frightened question in regards to not doing what God tells you to and Him waiting to kill you (the beginning verses of the story). Well, another lively explanation ensued...and I'm sure mom had fun talking on the way home.

Every so often I spend a little time thinking about idols. I don't mean little statues, anything that comes between me and God, or the latest singer who gets voted for via text messaging. I mean those examples in our lives that point us in the right direction. Some call them heroes. Whatever you call them, these individuals set an example of what it means to follow Christ in this thing we call life. Some of them are "just" friends, some of them are public figures, some of the them are world renown. All of them are vitally important to our growth in the Lord.
So, today I was thinking of one of mine. I'm a hand therapist, and in my world, one of the most well known hand surgeons is (was) Dr. Paul Brand. Now some of you may recognize his name despite not living in my world of hands. He wrote a couple of books with Philip Yancey- the most known being Wonderfully and Fearfully Made. The other was originally called Pain, a Gift Nobody Wants...but was renamed the Gift of Pain because let's face it, who wants to read about pain (but a gift everyone wants to read about). Anyways, after years in hand surgery, Dr. Brand moved to India. He was one of the leading physicians to solve the mystery of leprosy...and worked to get rid of it (cure it).
"Dr Paul Brand spent a lifetime working with people affected by leprosy, doing his utmost to destroy the stigma of the disease, and rebuild the lives of those destroyed by it. In doing so, he recognised the extraordinary gift of pain that the rest of the world usually takes for granted. Within each person he treated, he saw a broken spirit full of pain, as well as a broken body which felt no pain. And in each person Paul Brand saw the image of God." (John Mark Ministries)
Dr. Brand so emulated Christ in his career in medicine and missions that he was able to minister where others have been unable...in medicine and science. If he is discussed in classes and courses, his mission work is mentioned along with his medical work. His biography lists always includes those with Philip Yancey as well.
I know in my life that God has called me to serve him in my career....and He has brought me those patients He wants me to help physically as well as spiritually. I hope I live up in a small way to the example Dr. Brand has set.
My boss and I at times get to talking about the south, good ol' Southern Baptist Churches, and the Blue Collar Comedy Tour (go figure on th connection). So he told me to check this out...I must admit I did find some amusement in it.
Okay, I feel the need to explain the posted books:
If Disney Ran Your Hospital--If you are working in a hospital, read it and practice it. It's all about patient care and customer service.
The Spa Girls series--great beach read. Light hearted and no brain thought necessary. Just fun.
God Came Near--Max Lucado is awesome. I like this particular one for one chapter where he goes through the fruit of the spirit...Today I chose patience, so I will....He goes through each one and gives an example of how to enact them.
Take a Nap--my hubby announced in a sermon one day that my favorite past time was napping...so I posted this for him.
My apologies in advance to my SIL. You can just skip this one. But I had to put this thought somewhere...what the heck happened to Ohio State last night? Although I must admit the SEC seems to have the toughest conference (a wave of nausea comes with that admission)--it is those fans of the SEC and the Big 10 who are always fussing as to the poor skills of the Pac 10. I feel the need to point out that Hawaii of the WAC conference looked better this season than Ohio State did last night.
Wow, I'm a little scared. 2007 seemed to happen in a snap...what will happen with 2008. Maybe it'll be slower with the extra day it gives us. We brought in the New Year with New York....gave K-girl and J-boy and friend Ms. Stella pots and wooden spoons. We shoved them outside when the ball dropped in New York and screamed HAPPY NEW YEAR--and made as much rucus as possible. Now comes the "please get back on schedule and go to sleep before me!" efforts. I'll keep you posted.
